Review of TPMs exceptions

The Attorney General’s Review of technological protection measure (TPM) exceptions closed for submissions last Friday, the 17th of August. Bodies interested in submitting to the review were invited to provide their views on both the current exceptions for TPMs and to propose new exceptions to be incorporated into the Act, or the review or revocation of current exceptions. The Attorney-General’s department provided guidance material for submissions to follow. You can view the joint submission by the ADA and ALCC here

The submission advocates the introduction of new exceptions to the ban on TPM circumvention for the purposes of fair dealing, and activities undertaken by libraries, archives and cultural institutions under the flexible dealing provision in s200AB. The submission also supports the introduction of circumvention exceptions for the education sector.

Submissions to the review will be available for comment on the Attorney-General’s website. The closing date for comments on submissions is 5 October 2012.
